Hello sunshine! (a quick spotlight on sunlight)
SKIN HEALTH TIP 💡
Sun damage protection isn't just about applying sunscreen. It also means understanding the different types of sun rays and how harmful they can be.
We’ve summed it up here:
☀️UVA rays can penetrate clouds and cause damage that can't be seen instantly - these aren't 'sunburn' rays. They go deep into your skin, where collagen and elastin live, and directly damage the living cells there. Think “A” for ageing. UVA mutations can also cause melanoma. Generally, these rays result in tanning.
🌤Sunburn is caused by UVB rays (think “B” for burning). Their reach is limited to the top layer (epidermis) and is therefore more instantly noticeable when damage occurs. Nonetheless, they can lead to skin cancer and premature aging.
Make sure your sunscreen is a broad spectrum, meaning it blocks both UVA and UVB rays. The higher the PA rating, the better the protection - look for PA+++ or PA++++ on the label.
We recommend choosing a sunscreen with at least 20% zinc oxide and broad spectrum for optimal UVA + UVB protection, whatever the season.
Simple things like wearing a broader-brimmed hat, wearing a long-sleeve swimsuit/top, and finding the shade all add up, too.
Don't forget our top skin tip - prevention is better than cure. Be sure to apply sunscreen every day as part of your daily routine and enjoy the sun safely! You'll thank yourself later.
